Here at BARS+TONE, we often get mistaken for a bar (true story)! Maybe it’s because we have so much fun… We found this app just in time for our Thirsty Thursday Monthly Mixer tomorrow. Mixologist is the ultimate bartender guide to have on your phone (grab “Mixology” for free if you can’t spare a buck). Thanks to Digital Outcrop for this awesome app! This app won’t substitute for good ol’ fashioned bartending school, but it’s like having a giant book of recipes in your pocket in case you forget the ingredients to your favorite drinks. We’ll be trying this one out thoroughly on Thursday! Here’s the 5 minute rundown:
- Let’s go to the home screen. Browse drinks by category, ingredients, or all. Find top rated drinks or custom drinks. You can even locate liquor stores and bars, should you run dry. Store your favorite drinks in the favorites section or purchase more advanced recipes with detail images.
- The second tab is called the “cabinet”. This tab is genius app design at it’s finest. Tell your app what liquors, liqueurs (also called cordials by the savvy mixologist) , and mixers you have available. Then search for all the drinks you can make with the given ingredients.
- The random tab allows you to “gamble” for a cool drink to make with an awesome slot interface! Lock down the liquor, liqueur, or glass size you have available to narrow down certain aspects of the drink.
- Lastly, check out the “Bartending Guide”. This will give you all kinds of tips on how to be an awesome bartender. Even if you don’t consider yourself a bartender or work in bartending, it’s good to be in the know of what goes on behind the counter of your local bar! The more bar savvy you are, the more easily you can recommend certain drinks to your friends.
So head over to the app store and start pouring today! Feel free to share an awesome app in the comments below. If it really is awesome, we might just write about it next (and mention your Twitter or Facebook page in the process of course)!
